B&Q Bee Pit Stop

Consumer PR

We’re calling on the nation to help create bee-friendly spaces.

We helped our client B&Q unveil a Bee Pit Stop at King’s Cross to raise awareness of the current, and very worrying lack of safe spaces for bees throughout the UK.

A bee pit stop is a dedicated area populated with bee-friendly flowers

8 out of 10 Brits know bees are in trouble, but many have no idea what it takes to make a bee-friendly outdoor space; the pit stop has been unveiled to educate the population on the ease of creating these spaces, in the hope of encouraging the nation to plant one million individual bee pit stops across the country.

The Bee Pit Stop has been created by B&Q in collaboration with award-winning designer Matt Childs, the hexagonal installation is a dedicated area populated with bee-friendly flowers, including 500 plugs of lavender.

Steve Guy, Outdoor Market Director at B&Q, said: “The livelihood of bees is intrinsically tied to ours so it’s incredibly important that we do our part to save the bees – the consequences are dire if we don’t act.”

The installation at King’s Cross is the first of many pit stops to be created this Summer, expect to see pollinating roundabouts appearing around the UK from June onwards – making a vital difference and acting as a reminder of the vulnerability of bees today.

With The Times, Independent and a huge amount of social media buzz, it’s clear that the installation has resonated with our nation of bee lovers.
